Custom Velvet Curtains & Window Drapes

VELVET DRAPERY FOR YOUR LIVING ROOM, BEDROOM, DINING & BEYOND

Be still thy heart!

Custom velvet curtains and drapes handcrafted from our luxurious velvets have romanced our clients – homemakers and decorators alike – for as long as we can remember. Featuring plush piles and hues ranging from daring emerald greens and sapphire blues to subtle greys and browns, Spiffy Spools’  velvet curtains are a sensational way to bring any color story to life.

PERFECT FOR FORMAL SPACES. Just as linen rules casual spaces, velvet reigns supreme in formal decors and spaces. The plush piles and graceful sheen of this delicate fabric befit dressed-up rooms. From dimly lit cozy dining rooms to elegant reception rooms, velvet is the perfect backdrop for traditional/classic decor. Whether in classic plains or in ornate traditional patterns, velvet drapes never miss the mark when it comes to solemn window dressing. This soft squishy drape is a luxury exemplar – the apogee of grandeur.  If your design style is Modern Luxury or Hollywood Regency, our custom velvet drapes are just what you need to complete the theme.

PINCHED & PUDDLED. A beautiful fusion of radiance and elegance, velvet drapery looks best in pinch pleat tops. The rich gather of fabric in the flowery folds of the stitched-in pleats makes the most of this unique property of velvet.  For an extra bit of drama, let the drape flow 6-18 inches further after touching the floor for a luxurious, ‘puddled’ look. Rarely shedding its ancient regal connotations, pinched pleated velvet drapes flowing gently to pile elegantly on the floor are still quite the way to nail the look of a ritzy ambiance.  If your aesthetic is modern, we recommend one of the euro pinch pleats.

WEAR WITH WORTHY HARDWARE. Velvet deserves hardware that lives up to its grace and drama. The posh bearing of this splendid drapery strikes right only when paired with equivalent hardware. We love ornate tie-backs and on-trend metallic poles to go with this sumptuous fabric. For more subdued interiors, consider traditionally crafted wooden poles with intricately carved finials that match your furniture’s color tone. The perfect assemblage of velvet drapery hung on a glamorous pole and gathered by large rustic tassel tie-backs make a striking statement piece for a home adorned diligently with bespoke furnishings and artful decor.

INSULATING PROPERTIES. Beauty meets function in the compact weave which makes velvet a terrific insulator. Often used for upholstering furniture and as an insulative element in blankets, velvets are known for their power to resist cold weather. But few know that they do an excellent job of keeping the sweltering heat out of the room as well. The more the percentage of natural yarns in the fabric, the better the insulation capacity of the drape. Lower energy bills due to lesser requirements of artificial cooling and heating are the profits of this wise trade.

BLOCK NOISE & LIGHT. The thick and heavy structure of velvet is beneficial for sound deadening too. While all fabrics absorb sound, velvet gets an honorable mention in this regard because dense materials have a greater capacity for light and sound absorption. With its highly impressive ability to block unwelcome light and noise, velvet curtains serve right in offices, studies, and home theatres. We also recommend it for bedrooms with east-facing windows to effectively block the morning sun for late risers.

SOFT & FLOWING. Those who want a wrinkle-free fabric to grace their windows should be the first to fall for velvets. This rich-textured drape will never have to go under the hot presses because they do not retain creases unless kept in stores for ages. Only ensure regular vacuum cleaning to ensure that the velvety flow does not get tarnished by dust and lint.

Spiffy Tip: Being a relatively thick fabric, velvet needs more stacking room on the sides. Consider extending the pole or track 12-18 inches beyond the window frame, so your drapery has enough stacking room on the sides and does not block the inflow of light. We also recommend avoiding velvet drapery in small spaces and on narrow windows as it tends to absorb light and may darken a small room.

No matter, how long the litany of praises for velvet drapery, it will start and end with the mention of its veritable opulent elegance. The play of light and shadow on its plush surface is like poetry woven with a spectrum of hues. Puddled velvet drapes pooled in its hallmark plush piles are the covetable luxe window dressing of a high-end setting. So go on, take home a piece of opulence!
